Last Lobster, Casino, Vet Update!

Last week I took Dad back to Secret Beach to go fishing; I "supervised" from a shady beach chair - what I referred to as, "Daddy Daycare".

That blur in the water is my dad

He was unsuccessful in his fishing that day, so we headed to town for dinner, and then to the casino for entertainment.

Thursday brought some good news: Dr. Williams, the current Veterinarian at San Pedro Veterinarian Hospital, will be opening her own practice by the end of the year! All of us pet parents are holding out hope that she is able to do so. Fingers crossed!

Dad left Friday morning, so we dropped him off at Tropic Air on our way to Immigration for our Visitor's Visa renewal. Island life is not for him, which is fine - it's definitely not for everyone! But at least he has seen where and how we live outside of the US.

Friday night was the close of lobster season. We're of the socioeconomic group that lobster is a treat, so we haven't been ordering a ton of lobster dishes, but knowing it is forbidden for the next 3 months spurred us into action. PRO TIP: Check Facebook the last few days of lobster season, some restaurants were running 30-50% off specials! That led us to ZZ's Beach Club for 50% off lobster dishes. We have stopped at their beach bar, but had not had a meal there yet - it's where Caliente used to be, across from Estel's. They did a lovely job with the remodel - it's very trendy yet subdued. Their online menu showed more upscale entrees, but it has since been updated to be more of your run-of-the-mill dishes. Our server said the kitchen would make us the grilled lobster tails even though they were no longer on the menu, so a nice win for us.

After gorging on lobster, we decided to return to the casino as we were told they would be giving away a golf cart that night, and had accumulated some raffle tickets over our visits. Here is the flyer:

The drawing was not held; we were told it would be Saturday night, 10 PM.

Saturday, we finally painted our yard's fence. The sprayer we bought isn't high-powered enough to really push the paint (even when thinned), so we had to hand-paint it. 5 gallons and we came up 1-2 gallons short. I had to do more than one "Lizard rescue" when their dumb-asses walked into the wet, oil-based paint and got themselves stuck. (I saw one of my rescuees today; his back paint from my fingers is holding on strong.)

After dinner, we tried to stay awake to go back to the casino for the drawing, crawling in around 9:30. They did draw a little after 10 - for the first of five hourly drawings for 5 different prizes. There was no WAY we were going to make it until at least 2AM, so we cut our losses. We had probably 1 in 30 odds of having a ticket pulled, but in the end, we're too old to roll the dice after painting in the sun all day.

This week, we are meeting with our front-runner builder, and I go to Belize City for a doctor's appointment on Thursday. Friday afternoon, Zach (our younger son) and his girlfriend, Sam, arrive for 10 days - ASU's Spring Break. Nathan burned some vacation time with work so he can spend the days with us!
