Draft Day, Compost Class, and Nicholas to the Rescue...!

Wednesday we had our Family Fantasy Football Draft, and as the lone participants not in Phoenix, we went out for wings beforehand at The Alibi. We also had Joe (who won the National Cocktail Championship on Sunday) make us craft cocktails, simply telling him the flavors we liked. All three rounds/six drinks were BANGERS. The man is an elixir magician! Oh, and the wings were phenomenal, too! ...

Electrician Hunt, Independence Day Prep, and Voting Abroad

Monday, I had a waxing appointment in town at CG Esthetic - this was rescheduled from Friday, due to a staff miscommunication, which had my guard up. I met Deli, the esthetician, and she is DELIGHTFUL! Born and raised in San Pedro. I spoke with three providers on the island, and she was the best priced - one was higher than I paid in AZ for the same service. I am glad I have that "in search o ...

Pump Shopping, The Alibi, Boat Rides and Champagne Brunch

Thursday, our water pump again had leaks, just slower, and in new spots. Nathan made a band-aid repair that has slowed the leak considerably, but we know it's just a matter of time before it has to be replaced. We ping-ponged to three different hardware stores, and probably my biggest frustration is that hardly anything has a price on it. Anywhere. In grocery stores most things are priced, bu ...

Heartbreak; Build Visit; Great Food & Grocery Shopping

Saturday morning, I dreaded getting out of bed. I expected to find our outdoor kitty deceased. Nathan went outside first, and came back in, distraught - he said she was laying down under our neighbor's dock, and came out when he went outside. She tried to jump to an 18" tall sea wall to come over, but didn't have the strength, and fell in the shallow water, unable to get up. He hopped down a ...

Cart Shopping, Vegas Chefs, Amazon, and Critters...

It seems like I don't plan on staying if I continue to count the days, so I'll cease announcing my days on-island moving forward. Tuesday, we went to Road Runner Deli for lunch. It has 60+ Google reviews, all five-star. It's a little shed on the main street north of town. The owner is also the chef, working 6 AM to 10 PM seven days a week. He worked under celebrity chefs at Ceasar's Palace i ...

DAYS 4-7: The Boys' Last Days, Banking, and Cart-Swapping.

DAY 4: Friday Friday was a fairly unremarkable day, with the exception of some evening visitors on our patio... We were playing Monopoly after dinner and heard some commotion...opened the curtains to see two baby raccoons rubbing ALL OVER Nathan's swim shoes! Sorry for the reflection of our home in the door - this was the best I could do without scaring them off! DAY 5: Saturday We took ...

DAYS 1-3 as Belizean Residents! Exploding Kittens(food), Sticker Shock, Secret Beach Road...

A note should you try to pack canned pet food in a checked bag - 5 of 7 of mine EXPLODED inside the luggage - chicken with gravy was everywhere. The Village Market has the same tins I pay 79 cents for from Chewy for $2.50 U.S., so these cats just got a lot more expensive. DAY 1: Journey to Secret Beach Day 1 (Tuesday) found us in town for breakfast at The FryJack House, home of inexpensiv ...

DAY 0: BELIZE OR BUST..!

DAY 0 - Monday, August 5th, 2024 When I last left the blog, we had been picked up by my in-laws for a ride to Phoenix Sky Harbor.  If you prefer the TL:DR version, here is a video re-cap of our travel day: Traveling 13 hours and 3 flights with 3 cats to Belize Since we had cats/pets, we weren't able to check in online, we had to check in in person. That upped my anxiety as while we are alw ...

DAY 2 and DAY 1: Let's Gooooo!

Saturday, a.k.a. DAY 2, more panic hit as we were not receiving text messages now that our numbers were ported to GoogleFi. Kind of important for us to be reachable on our last few days in the U.S.! I'm not a techie and tried following troubleshooting tips. There was a note that it may take 24-48 hrs from porting a number until a customer can send and receive texts. In hindsight, I should hav ...

Goodbyes, Safe Delivery, Wrenches, GoogleFi, What I'll Miss...

Thursday evening, we headed to the Mejia's home after work. They were neighbors to my inlaws in their first apartment, their kids were - and still are - friends. We had an Italian feast and our kids (plus Lilly!) and Nathan's cousin, Joseph, came over as well. Perhaps we should have taken a family photo before the sun went down, and maybe I shouldn't have parked my keister under the misting s ...
