DAY 13: Our Home Sale Closes! And Our U-Pack Hits The Road...

Day 13 - the day that our home closes escrow, so it was a good day! As much as I'm saddened to leave it, it did its job and more for our family, and allows us to move a little more comfortably financially.

I was notified at 11:35 AM that the sale had funded and recorded, and that our check was ready for pickup. This was ten minutes after our U-Pack driver called to verify the delivery information, and pulled away with our shipment! I was immediately texted by U-Pack with a link to track its progress.

My real estate license expires July 31st, requiring 24 hours of Continuing Education (CE) to renew it. Fortunately, classes are available online, so I started tackling those courses. I could fly through them after being licensed for 27 years, but unfortunately, they are timed to where you must be logged in and active for the duration. While I absolutely do not intend to sell real estate in Belize (nor would I need a license to do so), we decided we should both keep our licenses up-to-date but inactive. It runs maybe $200 every two years to do so, "just in case", which I hate to even type!

I picked up our proceeds check from the Title Company after completing a 3-hour CE class, then headed to the bank to deposit it. We had proceeds wired on the last sale, but this Title Company wouldn't allow us to wire to a non-joint account, since both of our names were on the title. We don't have a joint account, so "live check" it was.

Chase Bank wouldn't allow me to deposit the check without Nathan's signature, since it was made out to Sharon Lord AND Nathaniel Lord, so that would have to wait until the next day - I was en route to meet Kevin, a friend I have had for over 20 years now! He moved to Ireland a year or two ago; he's retired and plays poker professionally, and Ireland is more "Friendly" to him tax-wise. He was only in town for a few days, after the World Series of Poker in Vegas; his daughter and son-in-law live here. We caught up for Happy Hour at a dive bar in Arcadia - we haven't seen each other in person in maybe five years..? But it's like we never missed a beat. He's probably the most genuine person I know, and if you are ever in need of compliments, he knows how to make people feel special. I'm bummed Nathan wasn't able to join us - he was buried with work - and Kevin had plans that evening. As did we!

Zach's girlfriend of 8 months went home to NorCal for the summer but came in for a few days to see him, so we met them at Zipp's, a Sports Bar & Grill. I'm glad she made the trip out, as she otherwise was not going to be back in Arizona before we left - she moves into her apartment by ASU on August 15th.

We have kept earmarking the closing of our home as, "the last major stress" and once that happens, "we can relax" but it's not turning out to be that simple; a lot of family and friends are trying to squeeze in one - or two - more visits. In our haste to get out of our home, we threw a lot of things into bins and brought them to the AirBnB, and have to sort through what we offload on family versus take with us on the plane. There is still a lot to do, and not much time left to do it!
