Rain, Rain, Go Away; Learning Too Much About People; Sourdough Recovery...
I have been struggling to find the motivation for a blog post; we have had a lot of gloomy skies and rain, as you can see (if you look beyond our neighbor's ghetto setup), and the state of *waves hands aimlessly in the air* the climate in the US.
I believe it has rained at some point every day since my last posting. Our ground is saturated, our walkway has standing water, and we can't get anything done outside. I have been trying to paint our "rust-resistant coach lights" that immediately rusted to shit, but I have not been able to get all 4 in the same sitting without the rain restarting. If I can shore them up, they will look 1,000% better.
The silver lining in all of this rain now is that the King Tide is not currently in. My photo memories showed me that last Sept 15th, our front yard was underwater between rain and the King Tide. It's next due in on October 6-12, so we'll see how our new, much-raised yard fares.
As for things in the US...regardless of your position, I would hope that we all can agree that the mood is combative, negative, and not improving. I was shocked to learn that some of my acquaintances are unapologetic bigots, and in some cases, ones I never would have imagined based on how strong their faith is. I don't want or need that kind of negativity in my world, and it was definitely wearing me down, so it seems more healthy to "unfriend" people who are full of hate and vitriol.
We are glad we are here, and not in the thick of it.
At the same time, two of our four parents have recently been in the hospital, which makes it tough being so far away.
In better news, it seems my Sourdough CPR worked! I saw a note in a sourdough group to add double the flour vs water when feeding, and that kicked my starter into gear! Plus, my cousin Olivia sent me some tips - thanks, Liv! While my loaf "shape" is still laughable, at least I turned out an edible loaf this time:
Amoba-shaped loaves - a new trend...?
Tuesday, The Alibi (which is now delivery-only until their new location is ready) delivered to me an AMAZING chimole soup - they posted a special for it the night before. We also pre-ordered fried chicken for Friday. They are such a great family who ended up with a bad landlord, we're going to support them with weekly orders.
Yesterday, I had to pick up a Belizean Queen order for the "meat freezer" neighbors, and asked Kit if she wanted to go along. Her answer was a resounding YES, we are all going stir-crazy with this weather! We dodged showers, running a few errands, and made it home before the thick of the storms. She took me to brunch for my birthday - to Green Espresso. Before we dialed back our spending, it was on my regular lunch rotation. I had perhaps the best non-alcoholic drink ever, their strawberry-lime juice.
Other than that, not much exciting to share. It looks like a lot of rain in the forecast, we could really use a clear day this weekend to get out of the house!
