32 Days: Eye Doctors, Furniture Sales, and Hurricanes
It seems my "Day Counter" is off a tad, or maybe it depends on what time of day I check it, but we are 32 days away from departure now.
We both had optical appointments today, and I'm proud to say that somehow, for the 3rd straight year, my eyesight has IMPROVED. It defies logic. I'm almost 47. I thought my eyes were getting worse, but it turns out, they were getting better - my glasses/contacts were simply too strong, making images distorted. Nathan stayed the same. He ordered prescription sunglasses, while I opted for Transitions sunglasses. Because I am old. They make sense to me, since I don't always want to bother with contacts - now I can drive the golf cart in the sun, then walk into a store, and not have to carry two pairs of glasses.
I also managed to move some furniture pieces! A fire pit table that we wanted to take for ambiance, but couldn't justify based on the weather, a pending sale tonight around 7 of a pair of chairs and a small table, pending patio set for tomorrow, and our upright chest freezer. THAT was my, "Priced too low" item, please refer back to yesterday's blog. It's at least 11 years old, I put it for $100 FIRM, and my phone blew up all day. From full price offers, down to $30. Seriously. Online selling is SO frustrating! If I posted it today and said "Price is firm", why in the hell would you offer $30...?! The man who was able to purchase it couldn't come until 4:30, which made him the most hated man all day on FB Marketplace and OfferUp, since I don't pull the posting until the item is picked up.
On the hurricane front, Beryl seems to be drifting northward, which is great news for Belize! I feel guilty celebrating as that means someone else is getting the brunt, but at the same time...it's not our home, or our friends' homes. Yet, anything could change in the next 24-36 hours, so we asked our property manager put up our storm boards. I'm not sure what their official name is, but we have plywood custom-cut to our doors' and windows' sizes, and lag bolts, stored in our bodega, a.k.a. "garage". It's 7PM on the island and our maintenance man is on our porch installing them with a helper.
This is their second "coming out" since we have owned the villa, but first time that we have cameras activated, so it's voyeuristic/interesting/scary to catch all the images in real-time. I think it will be less stressful than the first hurricane, though, because we will know instantly what is going on (provided power stays on for the front camera - the others are solar - and that none blow off the villa entirely), and we know that our first hurricane, Hurricane Lisa, didn't take the villa out. That link will take you to my blog about sweating out a hurricane 2 weeks after we closed on the villa, as well as photos of said hurricane boards.
More adventures tomorrow, stay tuned...!
